Why Now/ History
The healthcare landscape is marred by pervasive disparities in access, quality, and outcomes, disproportionately affecting underserved communities, particularly BIPOC individuals. According to a groundbreaking report by the International Labour Organization (ILO), an estimated 1.6 billion people across Asia and the Pacific lack effective access to social health protection, pushing many into poverty due to the prohibitive costs of healthcare services (ILO, 2022). Furthermore, women and BIPOC colleagues in science and engineering face systemic barriers such as unconscious biases, lack of mentorship, and underrepresentation, hindering their advancement and contribution to these fields (UNESCO, 2021). These challenges not only perpetuate inequality but also limit the diversity of perspectives and solutions in critical areas like clinical trial research and STEM, ultimately compromising the effectiveness and inclusivity of healthcare systems.
HDEIA, the Health Diversity Equity & Inclusion Alliance, stands as a beacon of transformative action in the realm of healthcare and social welfare. Rooted in the belief that health equity is a fundamental human right, HDEIA is dedicated to reshaping the dynamics of STEM education fields, health, and social systems, advocating for inclusivity, diversity, and accessibility for all.
At HDEIA, we envision a world where every individual, regardless of race, gender, or socioeconomic status, has equal access to quality healthcare and educational resources. Through strategic initiatives and collaborative partnerships, we seek to bridge the gaps in health equity, promote diversity in clinical trial research and STEM fields, and empower underserved communities with the knowledge and resources they need to lead healthier lives. With a mission-driven approach and a commitment to social welfare and educational empowerment, HDEIA strives to create a more equitable and inclusive future for all.
